For the Masses: The Forgotten book 1 by Nadia Duerson

For the Masses: The Forgotten

Book 1

By Nadia Duerson

❤️❤️❤️❤️
🔥
✝️

I really liked this book. Having said that I'm giving a HUGE disclaimer. THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL CHRISTIAN STORY LINE! You should be at least an older teen-adult for this series and not squirmish reading  through sins.

This book is about the difficult choices that plague each of us. It's about how we choose or not choose to deal with our sins. The sins in this book range from alcoholism, drug addiction, and sex. Yes, there are details. That's life. It's real which is why I actually liked this book. It's not Hallmark-y. Each character struggles to find God. Each makes serious mistakes. Each is human. But the end game is to make it to heaven. They take their time learning from their mistakes as well as those of their friends. And they have to choose repentance and Jesus or not. Nadia did a good job with the gritty details of real life for those struggling with sin.

Use discretion for this one❤️.

Breathing Water by Tanya Bird

Breathing Water

By Tanya Bird

❤️❤️❤️❤️
🔥

Ella has to begin a new life after injuries take her away from her Ballet career. Her father's friend gives her a job at his oil refinery business. Next door, she meets Dax. He's not human and definitely not okay with the oil rigs scumming up his ocean. He is okay with beautiful Ella and figures out quick that she's his mate. The problem is she's human, and it can only spell disaster.

This romance between the two is hot off the gate (but tactfully clean), but Dax just can't get his act together. He lies and goes off the handle too many times. And then just disappears for lengths of time. Poor Ella can only take so much. And frankly, way more than I would've. What happens when she finally snaps? Read to find out!

This is a story of fighting for those you love, forgiveness, and many, many chances to get it right. If you like stories of sea-folk this is a great book for you. Couldn't put it down (was up till 2am finishing it).

Ten Things Sloane hates about Tru by Tera Lynn Childs

Ten Things Sloane hates about Tru

By Tera Lynn Childs

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Sloane, an artist has to move from NYC to Austin, Texas after she gets arrested for vandalism. All in the name of art. Her parents want her away from bad influences. In Austin, she meets Tru (Truman) the neighbor boy and her mom's friends son. His parents think he's a delinquent. Therefore, Sloane's mother thinks he is too and doesn't want her hanging out with him. When her past comes back to haunt her she needs to figure out who for trust and how to fix it. She also needs to figure out what is happening between her and Tru.

This is a cute story. It brings back those old feelings from school when you just want to be trusted after you learned your lesson, but your parents just won't forgive and forget. We've all been there on some level. Maybe not felonious like Sloane here, but some trouble. There's good lessons in here and should appeal to any artist especially graphic/comic lovers.

A Cowboy for Keeps by Jody Hedlund

A Cowboy for Keeps

By Jody Hedlund

❤️❤️❤️💔
✝️

Greta is a mail order bride who decides to move west with her little sister who has consumption (tuberculosis). She hopes the move will help her sister feel better and heal. The trip is rough and they are robbed losing all their money. Then when they arrive she learns the man she was to marry has died. With no where to go or money, she enters into an agreement with Wyatt, her betrothed's friend. Wyatt, being the good guy he is, enters the marriage and seals a deal for more cattle in the process unbeknownst to Greta. This causes tensions especially with a neighbor who doesn't want anyone but himself to have anything of value.

This book wasn't as engaging as I'd hoped for from Jody. But the story kept moving along. Greta constantly tries to do the right thing for her sister but is too stubborn sometimes. Wyatt needs to fight harder for what he wants especially when it comes to protecting what's his. An unruly neighbor causes him and Greta several setbacks that could cost them everything.

If you like western romances, give this one a go. I just didn't like how it overly focused on the little girl's consumption.

The Names You Call Me by Kelly Violet

The Names You Call Me

By Kelly Violet

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
🔥
❌❌

Phew! This is the follow-up book to the novella The Love You Give Me. Rae-Ana (Rae) was severely and racially bullied in high school. Her best friend Xander was the only light in her world until a terrible misunderstanding and anger tears them apart. Two years later and in college, Xander still can't get his perfect girl, his ex-best friend, Rae off his mind. He's determined to win back her friendship and hopes for more. He had a lot of work to do since Rae had had two full years to lock away her emotions and simmer on what happened and Xanders betrayal. He works diligently when he learns he was the one at fault all those years ago. He will do anything to get her back, forever this time. Rae has a lot of hurt to overcome but most of the time it begins with forgiveness.

I love this book and it's prequel. I read both in one day. I couldn't put them down. Both made me tear up. I felt my heart break for Rae in the novella, and I felt Xanders love and determination in this book. Ya know when ya know they're the one, right? These kids knew all along. Sometimes time needs to pass to see clearly and mature. Am I right? Anyway, yes this book has sexy time in it. Not much. Just once. It's actually a sweet moment between them and when you read it you'll understand why. However, it's still saucy too. There is some language in this story as well. But, man, the anguish is there. I read a lot, obvi, however, not many books push me to the five heart range and this is exactly the emotions I look for. Well done Kelly Violet.

Ugh. This novella tore me up! This is a prequel to The Names You Call Me. In high school Rae was the poor girl in an exclusive school. She's only there on scholarship. The students bully her, ignore her, and make life miserable. Except Xander her best friend. Xander us the only thing keeping her from crumbling.

Xander actually likes Rae but when a jerk gets between them their friendship didn't seem so solid after all. Catch this heartbreaking story! Seriously, if you need a cry, go ahead... I felt for both of them. But I could smack Xander for being stupid. There, I said it.

Wren is the quiet girl that has a boring life. Her quietness has been keeping her from the things she wants such as NHS. She saves the life of a boy while working and he becomes completely enamoured with her.
Grayson has made some pretty bad mistakes that probably cost him the college he wants as well as the high school he loved. He took the blame while his friends lived life as usual. When he meets Wren everything in him wants to find out more about her. He snakes his way into her life. The problem is his old life has a way of sneaking in too and nearly destroys his budding relationship with the first girl he loves.

I actually loved this story. There's was some language but it did help get across raw emotions if the characters. I think Grayson was really trying to repent of his old ways. Wren really took everything like a champ. I was happy to see a character that took the time needed to analyze crazy situations without jumping to conclusions and making decisions from there. I also loved seeing her transition into someone seen as a pushover just because she was quiet to someone who was verbally strong and standing up for herself.

This was a good growth story. It did have some talk of "hooking up" and sex at parties but there's no descriptions.

Fire Games by Lorana Hoopes

Fire Games
The Men of Fire Beach Series

By Lorana Hoopes

🔥

Cassidy is a character we met in The Cowboy's Reality Bride book. She was a contestant on the show. This spin off book takes place after she returns home from the show. After returning to work as a fire fighter, she is given a bag of fan mail that had made it's way to the fire house. As she reads the letters she figures out she has an obsessed fan. He is actually stalking her.

She decides to show detective Jordan the letters. He really doesn't want to bother with the case feeling as though it's not serious. When Cassidy helps him find a suspect in a child smuggling case after a suspicious fire, he begins to have feelings for her. Cassidy is then taken by her stalker and Jordan has to find her before anything bad happens to her.

This is a Christian Romance mystery book. It has Christian tones to it as the characters are Christians and praying is mentioned, but that's the extent of it. So really anyone could read this authors books without being bombarded by Christian values.

This was a classic clean romance I would recommend. I would've like to see more of her fire fighting skills. But it didn't detract from the story.

Have a great day and keep reading!

The Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy by Barbara Ellen Brink

The Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy

By Barbara Ellen Brink

The Series gets ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥

Chosen

❤️❤️❤️❤️💔
🔥

This is book 1. Honestly, I had no idea what I'd be getting into with this book series. I found it on Hoopla. It's labeled separately or as the trilogy. The cover art is... interesting, and I would NOT judge this series by the covers or titles.

This first book is about a girl named Jael. She's named after the Biblical heroine Jael who killed Sisera when he fell asleep in her tent. She killed him with a tent stake. The author made an awesome storyline from this. Her character Jael is a descendant from the Biblical character and is the Chosen One. Her family is Amish but her parents and Jael are part of the shunned community. They are shunned because she is prophecied to kill the Amish Bloodsuckers who are vampires that control the community. She is to be the one to free them from the control of the vamps. Neat storyline, right?

This first story shows Jael coming into her abilities and learning to kill vampires. She also befriends a Native American tracker who is part wolf. His legacy is supposed to help the vampires find the Chosen One. He doesn't want that life. He wants to help Jael instead.

Shunned

❤️❤️❤️💔

Book 2. Jael finds herself without her parents and an uncle on a mission leaving her to go back to the Amish community that shunned her parents and uncle. Assimilation into the community is difficult. She wants to get to know her grandparents and make some friends, but she also is there to find out what the Bishop is up to. She is allowed to continue through school where she meets Gabe a boy who dreamed about her and painted a picture of her before meeting her. With her boyfriend, cousin, a priest descended from Tola (a friend of the original Jael), and finally her uncle Jael may actually be able to find out what's going on in Loon Lake.

This story is very well interwoven with the. Biblical story of Jael and the possibility of what came after. I really like it even though the story itself is simple. The Bible talks about these people who crossbred with fallen angels and we're called Nephilim. I've often wondered if these ancient stories of vampires, werewolves, fairies, sasquatch, giants, etc were a part of that community. We may never know...🤔 Anyway, I digress. I'm really curious to see where the story ends.

Reckoning

❤️❤️❤️❤️💔
🔥

With her two best friends in town, her boyfriend, her uncle, a Catholic Priest, and her Amish cousin, Jael begins to plan how to take down the Bishop. The Amish vampire community is growing quickly as the Bishop recruits by coersion. The entire group is needed to take down the enemy as well as more than one method.

This final book is full of love, action, and suspense! Jael has a lot of pressure on her shoulders. She handles herself well. I like that she still has teenage moments of impatience and irritation for her situation. I also really like Gabe, her boyfriend. He's exactly what she needs. He's her opposite, and it works for them.

I recommend this series for anyone looking for something unexpected and different and fun. I have been pleased by this especially with the cover art which has grown on me! 👍👍

I want to add that this is not listed as a Christian book, however there is many references to the Bible, verses, and ways of life for the Amish.

A Lot Like Home by Kat Cantrell

A Lot Like Home

By Kat Cantrell

❤️❤️💔

This story is about a hard headed woman, Havana, who returns to her hometown to upgrade it. She is working with a corporation that is building a luxury resort just out of town. They also want an up to date shopping plaza where downtown is. The problem is most residents of the small town don't want that. They like their sleepy little town as is.

Caleb and his Navy Seal brothers come to town to visit Serenity, Havana's aunt. She wrote them letters during their time overseas, and they want to help her with her little town while finding a new home for themselves.

There's instant attraction between Caleb and Havana as well as Serenity's prediction that each would find love through a project.

Honestly, my biggest issue is Havana. I just don't like her. She's selfish and pushy. I know tbauthor tried to paint her in a better light toward the end of the story, but I just didn't feel it. Caleb was too willing to give into his feelings for her and she kind of pulled him along knowing he needed support and love. And just when you think she may have turned the tide, she gets all snippy with her sister. This is a series that I probably won't continue.

Hope you're having a great day!

Tyler just broke it off with yet another girlfriend who didn't want a cowboy's lifestyle. City girls... When his friend suggests he audition for a reality show for Cowboy's finding love, he decides it's worth a try. He'd be paid, and his ranch needed the funds.

Laney just got fired from her job as an assistant make-up artist slash gopher at a prestigious New York agency. Fortunately, an old friend calls asking if she can fill in as the makeup artist for a reality show. With no other choice she headed to California.

During production introductions, Laney accidentally trips and Tyler catches her. Both feel an instant spark of attraction. The problem is Laney is not on the show and is just Tyler's makeup artist. The sparks continue as the two get more private time during filming when she applies his makeup every day. When Tyler can't get Laney off his mind or find any of the other women attractive like Laney, he formulates a plan to get Laney to become a part of the show.

This is a sweet Christian Romance where both characters are believers which is what gives them the strength to last. This is the first book by Lorana Hoopes I've read and I'll definitely read more!

Eternal Brethren Series

By Shirleen Davies

❤️❤️❤️❤️
🔥
❌❌

I feel like I give all of her books the same emogis! Well, I like the action and suspense she brings to the books. This series is a well oiled machine from one book to the next, yet each can also stand alone.

In this book we get to know Tracker (or Nate) and Juliana. Nate and Juliana had a great relationship several years prior when he was still working as a Seal. When he was asked to join the Eternal Brethren motorcycle club he had to break up with Juliana in order to protect her from his job. Neither Juliana nor Nate moved on, each staying in love with the other. However, the sting of rejection has left her angry since Nate never explained why he left her. When they see each other again he decides he won't lose her again, but he almost does again. Juliana also must deal with revelations about her family that could cost her life.

I enjoyed this second chance book. It was obvious that Tracker still loved her and wanted only to be honest. My one complaint was that it seemed like she jumped into his arms too easily. I would've liked to see him squirm a bit. 😆 Anyway, like the others there's a few sex scenes I skimmed over. They seemed pretty typical of Shirleen's other books.

I think there are two more books in this series. Sheesh...

The Resistance Trilogy by K. A. Riley

The Resistance Trilogy

By K. A. Riley

Recruitment

❤️❤️❤️❤️💔
🔥

First of all, I want to just say how much I love the dystopian category. I don't know why, but I do. What can I say, I feel like it's research for a future we may see🤷‍♀️🤣.

Anyway, this series had been in my Amazon list for a while and I finally decided to read it. The story takes place in the not so distant future (it's 2021 and this is in the year 2042.). A war has been ravaging the US for about ten years. First the able bodied adults were taken for military recruitment. Then every year the ney turned seventeen year olds are recruited. There's no choice. They must go or die.

Kress is different from everyone else in her tiny town. Her father, a geneticist, altered her so she was integrated with a raven. She can see and hear what the raven, Render, sees and hears. She trains him and herself to become an awesome team. In recruitment day, Render must be left behind as the 8 seventeen year olds leave to be trained.

Training takes place at a place that tests their ability, trainability, tactical abilities, and mental/psychological abilities. But something is not right with the facility. They are warned that some die during training. They are pushed to near death. Through it all the group becomes closer and begin to work closely as a team. When tragedy strikes their team questions are being asked and truths come to light about the war and the recruits real purpose.

So far this book series hasn't disappointed. I'm looking forward to the next book. Kress, a loner at home, begins to shine as a strong quiet leader that her group looks to for inner strength and comfort. It doesn't hurt that she also is developing her ability of telepathy that goes beyond Render the raven. We even see the growth of the strange character Amaranthine who becomes vital to their group.

It's a bit mysterious, a little bit of action, with some puzzles you can try to figure out yourself. I'd say young adults and adults would like this book.

Render

❤️❤️❤️💔

The recruits have escaped the Processor facility after discovering the war is a lie. They are on the run to get back home to warn the children left and save them. Danger comes around every corner from the desert, hunger, crazy people, slave cities, and whether trusting others is a good idea. After returning home, they head for San Francisco to assist the underground resistance. Kress, Brohn, and Manthy are quickly figuring out their abilities as well as giving hope to their fellow countrymen.

This book was not as exciting as the first. They did a lot of traveling and it had a lot of explanations. It is probably the set up for an epic finish in Rebellion.

Rebellion

❤️❤️❤️💔
🔥

This is the third book in this trilogy, though the story continues after this book. So calling it a trilogy is a stretch. In this book Kress and her Emergent friends are in San Francisco with Wisp, Brohns sister. The beginning of the book is all about their strategy for fighting President Krug who's visiting. I found all the strategy boring. I found myself skimming this part of the book not really getting into it.

However, it does get more exciting when Kress and Brohn have an encounter with Krug's men. Around chapter 25 we finally see the battle with Krug. This has good fighting and surprises.

The book leaves us with the team going in another mission, hence not truly a trilogy. I'm sure I'll read the next book, but I'm going to wait.

All in all, this is an exciting series, and I really love how the characters are born with cool abilities.  Give it a read if you like military strategy and dystopian books.

The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher

The Wrong Family

By Tarryn Fisher

❤️❤️❤️💔
🔥🔥

In this thriller, we meet Juno a former psychologist who lost everything and ended up in jail then homeless. She found herself following a family wondering about their story. Eventually, she weaseled her way into their house living in a crawl space unbeknownst to them.

She overhears a lot about the family. She learns the husband and wife have marital problems, the son goes behind his parents backs, and the husband has his own side life. Juno sets in motion a plan when she finds out that Winnie, the mother, had taken a baby from a client 14 years ago. She wanted to do right by the son who seemingly was in the wrong family. Juno also learned that Winnie's brother had it out for Winnie's husband.

It all gets crazy when the brother loses it and the grandmother of the stolen baby shows up on the same day. All the excitement happens at this point.

There's a lot of suspense in this thriller. The story ended quite differently than I thought it would. I liked the ending because it was action packed. The rest of the story was quite dry though. It had a lot of backstory and suspicion from Juno without much legwork on her part. It took me a while to get through it just because of that. I'll leave this one with you to decide if you want to read it.
