The Rules of being Friends by Jessica Sorenson

The Rules of being Friends

By Jessica Sorenson

❤️❤️❤️❤️💔
🔥

This is book 2 in the series after the Art of being Friends. This book brought more suspense and drama than book one. The boys learn that Raven may not be who they or even she thinks she is. Raven is beginning to remember things that seem like they belong to someone else, like memories of the boys as small children. Then there is the revealing of one of her awful secrets...what her uncle does to her. The boys are seriously sweet even though they hide behind tough and unforgiving exteriors while Raven is finally letting some walls come down.

Again as in the first book, there is issues with drugs, cutting, and abuse. Also though is the mystery deepening in regards to Raven's past. Catch this series! It's a quick read and suspenseful. Book 3 comes out December 2021. Now I must wait.😭 How will I pass the time? Lol, obviously reading more books!

The Art of being Friends by Jessica Sorensen

The Art of being Friends

By Jessica Sorensen

❤️❤️❤️❤️
🔥

First off, I really like Jessica Sorenson books. Second, I wish they were longer. Third, please help poor Ravenlee! This child has one messed up life. And then she makes friends with guys who are just as messed up as she is. And they each find ways to soothe their pain. I really liked each character. Raven is strong and assertive and yet unsure of herself. Hunter is goofy and flirty. Jax is quiet and secretly very caring. And Zay is broody, but I'm guessing there's more to him than he lets on. Best friends are hard to come by and Raven has finally found her people, or did she already know them?

This story is intriguing and mysterious. I am really curious if she'll get her memories back, if her uncle will get in trouble, and if someone will smack some of the snot out of her cousin.😆

I'd have given this book 5 hearts except the drug use. There's pot and cocaine. I will also give serious triggers with cutting and abuse as well as bullying. I'm still recommending this one though. And I'll be moving immediately onto the next...

Beauty's Curse by CS Johnson

Beauty's Curse

Once Upon A Princess Series

By C.S. Johnson

❤️❤️💔

This story is about Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty. This story is a different take on the original though. She's tough, a fighter, and refuses to fall in love even though she is and won't admit it. This is only book 1 in the series and it ends in a cliffhanger. She's determined to end the curse herself because she doesn't want to marry and become queen nor abdicate the throne to her younger sister or brother.

Honestly, this one fell flat for me. I'm not sure I'll get to the next even though I'm curious to see where the author takes her love life, either with her best friends Theo or Prince Philip. Traditionally the story has her end up with Philip, but this isn't our traditional Rose. That would be the only thing bringing me back. There were several grammatical errors also. That doesn't usually stop me from reading unless it doesn't make sense, but I know it bothers other people. On that note, I am only giving it 2.5 hearts🙁

Bittersweet Wreckage by Erin Richards

Bittersweet Wreckage

By Erin Richards

❤️❤️❤️❤️

🔥

Ivy has a lot to deal with after losing her abusive dad, like finding out she has a half sister and adopted brother. I'm not sure how I'd deal with finding out the boy I like is my adopted brother😆. This book was a crazy family tale with suspense, a possible who done it, and forbidden love. Oh and we'll throw in a crazy half sister who dabbles in Voodoo.

The story bothered me at times and also kept stringing me along wondering what would happen to poor Ivy next.

Possible triggers: There is sex in this young adult story. There's not too many details. There's also a pregnancy with talk of a possible abortion. There's also abuse.

All in all it's a happy ending.

Update on Reviews

Hello fellow readers!

I wanted to do an update on a change I'm making. Up to this point, I've given a bit of background of the books I've been reading. It takes time for that. I often spend time contemplating my thoughts and how to best word it without giving too much away.

At this point, I'll still be giving my hearts, crosses, fires, and X's. I'll also give a quick thought/review on the book. I won't be giving anymore story backgrounds (unless necessary). I will still let you know about triggers and sex especially if it's in young adult and Christian categories. I want this to be a place where you can come quickly to determine if a story is for you, a family member, or a friend, or not.

I thank you so much for checking out my reviews. Let me know what you thought of the book you read and send me suggestions!!!

Oath of Office by Jack Mars

Oath of Office

Luke Stone Series

By Jack Mars

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
🔥

This is book 2 in the series, and I love this series. After Luke saved the VP and she takes the Oath of Office yet another terrorist attack begins. The last one was American made but this one is anything but. A weaponized version of Ebola is stolen from a level 4 lab and Luke jets sets around following leads, most of the time without approval. He is risking his life over and over as he country comes under a biological attack that could wipe out 94% of the population. His personal mission is to stop it but it comes at a cost.

I really like his stupid bravery, but I hate that he has affairs on his wife. That's my only issue with this guy. He keeps saying he wants that home life and to retire and decide his life back to his family, but his action say otherwise.

This book is filled with all kinds of action and suspense.

Rule #4, You Can't Misinterpret a Mistletoe Kiss by Anne Marie Meyer

Rule #4, You Can't Misinterpret a Mistletoe Kiss

Rules of Love Series

By Anne Marie Meyer

❤️❤️❤️💔

Ava's family competes with the Stephens family in every way. Her brother and Jacob used to be best friends until Jacob got caught stealing. Now he's the black sheep, but he's still Ava's crush. She's pretty sure he'd never see her as any more than his ex-best friends little sister.

The families get together for Christmas, there's a forced mistletoe Kiss, competition goes wild as Jacob and Ava are paired together, Jacob actually tells her he likes her, and a huge secret revealed changes everything.

This story reminds us that not everything is as it seems and friendships shouldn't ruin your life. Ava also underestimates herself and her ability to bring these families back together because she might be the only person who can.

This is a great Christmas read.

Rule #3, You Can't Kiss Your Best Friend by Anne Marie Meyer

Rule #3, You Can't Kiss Your Best Friend

Rules of Love Series

By Anne Marie Meyer

❤️❤️❤️❤️

I'm really enjoying this series. It's clean with only a few references to sex within the series. In this book Olivia is best friends with Ethan, but she crushes on another boy who she hopes will notice her. She concocts a plan to get her best friend dating again and gets her a date with her crush. She also uses it as an excuse to get the marching band to Paris. When the school approves she has the computer geniuses come up with an algorithm that pairs people up with similarities. So who is she paired with? Who gets jealous? Who's heart gets broken in the end?

I honestly felt as though Olivia was CLUELESS! She had no idea what people thought of her or that anyone actually liked her. Ethan, her friend, I feel strings her along in this mess and really should just talk to her about what's going on. But then there wouldn't be so much suspense, right?

Moral to the story, crushes aren't all they seem to be, friends that are guys complicate things, and think of others feelings before you hurt them.

Cute story. Her crush does seem to look at other girls and judge them by their looks which to me is n'okay. But that's life. Enjoy, especially when Olivia outs herself out there!

Rule #2, You Can't Crush on Your Sworn Enemy by Anne Marie Meyer

Rule #2, You Can't Crush on Your Sworn Enemy

Rules of Love Series

By Anne Marie Meyer

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Penny has been called chocolate milk by Cade since middle school after an unfortunate chocolate milk accident. Ever since, she has labeled him enemy number one because he got the entire school calling her that. Now in high school, he still is calling her that and she finds him annoying. He is also labeled a bad boy and it's easier to just stay away.

Cade got in trouble and as part of his sentence, he must improve his grades and try to become an upstanding citizen. The principal thinks it's a good idea to put Penny and Cade together so she can tutor him. Penny's life begins to fall apart and feelings she shouldn't have start to surface.

This book is a cute bully to lovers romance. Penny has a lot of growing up to do especially when life at home falls apart. Everything she tries seems to backfire against her too. If you're looking for a cute quick read this is a good one. It's also a good lesson builder for teens who go looking for fixes to problems in the wrong places and giving in to peer pressure.

See ya real soon!

Kiss and Repeat by Heather Truett

Kiss and Repeat

By Heather Truett

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Stephen has grown up with Tourettes Syndrome. His tics change and are typically movement of his face and shoulders. He's very self conscious about them and feels as though they have kept him from having a girlfriend. His Tourettes also cause anger issues which he must learn to handle properly.

Stephen is invited to a party where a game of spin the bottle has him partnered with a very pretty girl. His nerves have him twitching like crazy as he has his first kiss. But the kiss actually acts as a relaxant to his condition. The idea that kissing stops his tics gives his friend the idea to set up an experiment. He begins kissing a few girls, but the one girl he really wants to kiss also confuses him and the experiment doesn't seem to matter anymore.

This is a good story about letting go of your own ideas of the obstacles in your life that hold you back. I liked the character development as we watch Stephen learn to deal emotionally and physically with his Tourettes. One of my best friends growing up had this and this book had me reflecting on his physical tics which were similar to those described in the story.  Honestly, the tics weren't really what I remembered most about him because he was a fun friend to be around. He didn't let it ruin his life which I think is the true lesson to learn.

Enjoy your day! Keep reading and let me know what you thought of this book.

Forever Hidden By Tracie Peterson

Forever Hidden

By Tracie Peterson

❤️❤️❤️💔
✝️

Havyn lives in Nome, Alaska with her mother, grandfather, and two sisters on their family farm. Havyn's family keeps many secrets some of which pertain to the double life led by their late father. They do well until both her grandfather and mother get sick.

John is heading to Nome to give a gift his grandfather asked him to deliver to his best friend after his death. John met Chuck years ago as a young teen and was looking forward to giving him the gift from his grandfather. Unfortunately, by the time he reaches Alaska, he's broke. Chuck, his grandfather's best friend, brings him on as foreman of the farm hoping one of his granddaughters will marry him.

John falls for Havyn but circumstances and running the farm when Chuck and his daughter are sick make it nearly impossible to find time to sleep, let alone court. Luckily for him, Havyn is strong and allows herself to fall for the foreman.

This is a decent story. It had some slow moments, and I'd say the last fourth of the book was the more exciting section especially when secrets begin to reveal themselves. Havyn, always the secret keeper has an inner struggle with whether keeping secrets is a lie and beneficial to anyone in the long run. I've been on the opposite end of this situation, and I must say it hurts to know you weren't entrusted with certain information especially when you could've helped.

This is a solid Christian story with a good sermon in it. It's the first in a series. The second book, which just published, is about another daughter/sister.

Happy reading!

Heart of Clay by Shanna Hatfield

Heart of Clay

By Shanna Hatfield

❤️❤️❤️
✝️

Clay and Callan are married, and their marriage has grown stale and cold. Both still live each other they just seem to have grown apart. Callan has kept a terrible secret from her husband. Clay has every right to be angry.

This is a redemptive story. Both characters need to forgive the other as well as themselves. Clay, due to his wife's coldness became a little vindictive while Callan kept secrets and blamed herself. After a big fight the two get it all out in the open and slowly begin to heal.

This story wasn't bad. I just found it to be slow and boring. I really didn't like Callan for keeping such a terrible secret. It would be hard to forgive. Clay seems like a genuinely good husband, he just played off his wife's moods. Like I said, it wasn't exciting, and I asked myself several times, "how many more pages?"

*This book should come with a disclaimer: there is marital issues, miscarriage, and a terrible accident, and a coma discussed in this story.
